Cambrian Period
During the Cambrian Period New York State was part of a supercontinent called called Rodinia ( from the Russian word for "homeland", rodina). New York was an aquatic environment, where fish and trilobite flourished. North America was part of Laurentia, the second largest continent. The land masses were scattered due to plate tectonics. The environment was cold in the beginning, but it gradually became warmer.
